Midlifebachelor.com is proud to announce the selection of e-commerce icon Stormy Simon of Overstock.com as our Woman of the Month for October 2010!

Stormy Simon is the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Customer Care at Overstock.com. Now I work in middle management in the technology industry, and often interact with the senior leadership of many customer organizations - and I can tell you that WITHOUT QUESTION, there are very, very few women in high-level positions that are as completely hot as Stormy Simon.  She is the gold standard, people - so take notice!

Here is some personal background on Stormy Simon that she was willing to share with midlifebachelor.com. She grew up in Tooele, UT and spent the 1990's in Salt Lake City working in a variety of industries. She joined Overstock.com in 2001 as a sales agent, moved on manage B2B, and then created the Book, Music, Video & Game department. Beginning in 2003, Stormy wrote and produced the company's well known television ads, starred in a number of commercials herself, and has managed all advertising buying. In 2007, Stormy took over and rebuilt Customer Care into the #2 in Customer Service among all US retailers (online and off) according to an annual National Retail Federation/AMEX poll. Since 2009. Stormy Simon has been Chief Marketing Officer for Overstock. Stormy has moved back to her hometown of Tooele, Utah, and started her own farm for mini-animals, affectionately referred to as the "McFarm". Stormy, her two sons, four dogs, two cats, and sixteen animals including pigmy goats, mini-horses, a mini-donkey, and ducks now call her farm home. Stormy is a single mom whose role models include her mother and Erin Brockovich. She attributes her success to the "school of hard knocks".

SEC filings for Overstock.com show Ms. Simon as being 41 years old - so she is one of us ... a midlife bachelorette herself!

Where Did the Name "Stormy" Come From?
Everyone wonders where Ms. Simon's first name came from - and we at midlifebachelor.com have the scoop (it was the first question we asked).  Her parents could not decide what to name her until seven days after she was born. They decided on Stormy because it was the name of a character in one of her father's favorite books. In the book, Stormy is a very talented entrepreneur who overcomes great odds to become a successful businesswoman.

One more interesting datapoint - look at the photo of Stormy Simon on the upper-right side at the top of this page. That photo was cropped from one taken of Stormy recently in association with the Wounded Warrior Project. Stormy Simon came up with the idea for Overstock.com to partner with the Wounded Warrior Project which raises awareness, enlists public aid and provides programs to meet the needs of severely injured service members and their caregivers. 83 cents of every dollar donated to the Wounded Warrior Project goes to provide services and programs to wounded warriors and their families. Here are two more quick photos of Stormy Simon - the one on the left is her with Max Cleland (former U.S. Senator, Vietnam Veteran, recipient of the Silver Star and Bronze Star for valorous action in combat). The one on the right is what the larger photo up top was cropped from:

I have two videos of Stormy Simon to share with you. The one below is a youtube video that shows her in a promotional video for Overstock.com's partnership with the Boston Red Sox. She gives Fenway park an impressive furnishing makeover, and also a marketing makeover ...

The second video I have of Ms. Simon shows her in High Def in the latest Overstock.com commercial. I saw this exact commercial, and instantly knew I had found our next midlifebachelor.com Woman of the Month. To watch this video, you need to allow pop-ups in your browser, and then click on the link below. Note that the video in the pop-up is not hosted by youtube - rather it is a 9MB Quicktime video - so it may take a little while to load (depending on the speed of your internet connection). You also have to have Apple Quicktime installed, and if you do not then you can download it here.
