Challenges of Being Single at Midlife

This short section gives you a high-level overview and introduction to the types of issues discussed in the content of midlifebachelor.com.  The purpose of this section is to enable us (the midlife bachelors and sometimes midlife bachelorettes) to share and leverage the midlife knowledge … so that together we can more easily maneuver our way through our individual midlife bachelor/bachelorette experiences.

Introduction to Mental Makeover – Rev 2.0
Recognize also that the makeover you need to be a successful midlife bachelor will probably also include an attitude adjustment.   Some people refer to this as a “personality update” … or in the very worst of cases a “personality transplant”.    Your physical appearance is only half of your real world presentation.  The other half is what comes out of your mouth when you speak … it is the image you project of yourself.   What you say and how you act are so important – every bit as important as everything else.   Every one of us can always use an attitude update – or at least a periodic assessment/reassessment of how we each conduct ourselves.   Dating and relationships in midlife are just like any other endeavor – attitude is everything!  I’ll explain the different dimensions of attitude and personality in Attitude Adjustment/Mental Makeover 2.0 subsection of The Midlife Bachelor Personal Makeover … but for now, be aware that pretty much everyone can benefit from an attitude adjustment.   As you analyze yourself throughout your respective midlife bachelor successes and challenges, you may even wind up liking yourself more as you fine-tune your outbound personality.  One primary concept I try to encourage midlife bachelors to practice is that of spreading “good karma”.  In other words, whatever it is you do or say, try to keep it positive … as positive thoughts often lead to positive experiences.  For an easy example, consider the following:  would you rather hang out with someone who is happy and smiling, or someone scowling and complaining?

Of course, there is much more to a mental makeover than just smiling and talking about nice things.  Listening is just as important as talking – if not more so.  How many women in your past have said to you something like, “You don’t listen to me.”   God knows that I’ve heard that from every woman I’ve ever dated … as recently as last night, in fact.  Listening skills are a continuous challenge for midlife bachelors – but they are especially important when you first start dating someone.   Many other aspects of a mental makeover are important for us – use Attitude Adjustment/Mental Makeover 2.0 subsection of The Midlife Bachelor Personal Makeover as a starting point for yourself.  The number of possible behavioral challenges that each individual midlife bachelor could face is enormous, so in my messages to you, I focus on the most common issues I’ve seen or experienced.
